TCG

Pocket Hybrid

Round time: 30 minutes (Swiss & Top Cut)

Match format: Best-of-three (Swiss & Top Cut)

Deck lists: Required

Deck building restrictions: 30-card deck plus 10-card Energy Zone (must be sleeved differently from the main deck; must contain only Basic Energy cards)

Special Rules:

Players draw a starting hand of 5 cards.

The player going first may play Supporter cards.

Players do not Prize cards at the beginning of the game. Instead, the win condition is Prize Points. Players earn Prize Points for knocking out the opponent’s Pokémon.

The number of Prize Points earned is equal to the number of Prize cards that would normally be earned from the KO.

The first player to collect 3 Prize Points wins the game.

Although they may be included in the deck, any card that references Prize cards has no effect.

Examples:

  • Iono (PAL 185) cannot be played because it references Prize cards.
  • Snorlax Doll (PAR 175) cannot be played because it references Prize cards.
  • Luxurious Cape (PAR 166) may be attached as a Tool card, but would have no effect because it references Prize cards.
  • Cresselia (SFA 21) cannot do extra damage with Crescent Purge, as the requirement to do additional damage references Prize cards.
  • Charizard ex (OBF 125) cannot use the attack Burning Darkness, as the required calculation references Prize cards.

The first player to collect 3 Prize Points wins the game.

At the beginning of your turn, a player draws one card and reveals the top card of their Energy Zone (except on the first turn of the player going first).

The player may play the revealed Energy card from the Energy Zone. It is not considered part of the hand or deck at this point, but if discarded, they still go to the discard pile, from which they may be retrieved and put into the hand by attacks, Abilities, or Trainer cards.

Any cards that shuffle Energy into the deck instead shuffle the Energy into the Energy Zone. The Energy currently revealed at the top of the Energy Zone is set aside, and then replaced once the shuffle is completed.

Examples:

  • Super Rod (PAL 188) shuffles any Pokémon back into the deck, and shuffle any basic Energy cards back into the Energy Zone a described above.
  • Chien-Pao ex’s (PAL 061) Shivery Chill Ability cannot be used, since the game knows there cannot be any Energy cards in the deck due to the format being played.
  • Crispin (SCR 133) cannot be used, since the game knows there cannot be any Energy cards in the deck due to the format being played.
  • Baxcalibur’s (PAL 060) Super Cold Ability would only attach Energy from the hand. It does not interact with the Energy Zone.
  • Magcargo ex’s (TWM 029) Ground Burn attack will never do extra damage, as there cannot be Energy cards in the deck.
  • Goldengo ex’s (PAR 139) Make It Rain attack cannot discard Energy from the top of the Energy Zone.
  • Team Star Grunt (SVI 195) would place the Energy on top of the Energy Zone.  If the top card of the Energy Zone was already revealed, set aside the revealed card and place the Energy card on top of the Energy Zone.  Then, return the revealed Energy to the top of the Energy Zone.

Outside of the rules listed, standard rules apply.

Last Resort

Round time: In-game timer

Match format: Best-of-three

Team lists: Required

Ruleset: Regulation I

Rental teams: Permitted

Team building restrictions:

Pokémon cannot share a type with another (including Tera types).

Examples:

  • If Pelipper (Tera Stellar) is on your team, you cannot have any other Water, Flying or Tera Stellar-type Pokémon.
  • If Pawmot (Tera Ghost) is on your team, you cannot also have Misdreavus (Tera Bug).

A Pokémon can share a type with its own Tera type.

Example:

Venusaur (Tera Grass) is legal.

Special Rules:

Pokémon cannot select a move they have already used in the match until they have used all other available moves. This applies to the full best-of-three match, not just each individual game. This resets in between rounds.

If an illegal attack is selected, or if an illegal attack is selected and used as a result of a time-out, the player forfeits that game.

If a move is selected, but the Pokémon is removed from play or knocked out before it can use the attack, it does not count as using the attack.

Similarly, if a move is selected but conditions such as Confusion or Flinch prevent that move from being used, it does not count as using the attack.

Players will receive a plastic sheet protector and a dry erase marker to aid in keeping track of moves selected.

Examples:

Pelipper has the moves Wide Guard, Hurricane, Hydro Pump, and Tailwind.

For the first attack, Pelipper uses Wide Guard. Pelipper cannot use Wide Guard again until each other move has been used.

Pelipper uses Hurricane next, and cannot use it again until it uses Hydro Pump and Tailwind.

After using all 4 moves, if Pelipper uses Hydro Pump, it cannot use that move again until it uses its other moves again.

Banned Pokémon: Pokémon with fewer than 4 moves.

Swiss

Players will be separated into pods of 4-8 players.

Each player will receive a “Booster Pack” of 10 Pokémon TCG cards. These will be pre-selected and feature Pokémon available in Pokémon GO, and available under 1500 CP.

Players will then “draft” their team, choosing 1 card, and passing the rest to the player on their left, until each player has selected 10 Pokémon. Players may not reference their phone during the drafting process. Players will then write down their 10 Pokémon.

Players will have 30 minutes to prepare their team. They may make trades within Pokémon GO during this time, but cannot trade the cards they have drafted.

If a player drafts multiple of the same Pokémon, such as drafting 2 Charjabug cards, that player may have 2 Charjabug on their team.

Players will then have 2 additional minutes to write down their CP on the team sheet before round 1.

Players may not change their moves on their Pokémon after this.

Top Cut (Rochester Draft)

The Judge will collect all cards from each player after the final round.

Players will split into 2 pods of 4 (1,4,5,8 and 2,3,6,7 seeds if a top 8.)

A Judge will lay out 30 Pokémon for the players to choose from face up.
