Set Up and Gameplay

Games of Professor Rumble have each professor add their 4 Pokémon Cards to the Community Deck at the Table (We will add a paper in the back of the sleeve with the card owner’s name.  ).  The Deck is Randomized and cards are dealt out to the 7 zones on the Rumble Board one at a time – 2 face down and one face up. There will be left over card not used in that game. The Professors will then determine who goes first by a high roll.   Professors will then take turns, in a reverse snake order starting with who is going first, secretly placing one of their Point Tokens provided on one of the zones.  Only 2 Tokens can occupy a zone.

During the Game, the Professor will roll 4 Energy Dice.  and they have to select an attack that their energy dice can pay for.  Then they roll a Target Die, which will determine which of the Pokémon that attack will hit.  Attacks can go up to 3 spaces clockwise away from the attacking Pokémon If a Pokémon is knocked out, the professor Claims that Pokémon in their score pile.  Then the face down Pokémon below is revealed.  Continue until, one zone has Pokémon remaining.  The Point tokens at the last zone are returned to the Professors to add the points located.  And the 4 Cards are given back to the Professors. Results for the round is based on the following,

Points = Number of Knockouts + Token Points

Tiebreakers in this order:

  • Number of Knockouts
  • HP of Knocked out Pokémon

Standing will be calculated by the above with the added final tiebreaker of sum of placements.

Other Quirks of Professor Rumble.

  • Weakness and Resistance is in play.
  • If a Zone is out of Pokémon or the targeting comes back to itself, it is skipped over.
  • A Pokémon cannot attack itself.
  • Like in the original game, if you roll 4 null symbols, then you can do 100 damage to any Pokémon in play.
  • If recoil damage from an attack knocks out the attacking Pokémon, the knockout goes to the Professor who used the attack.
  • Professors are not removed from the game if their 2 tokens are not in play.

Professors at table 1&2, 3&4, 5&6 etc. will all enter a free for all lobby.  There will be a 3-minute team preview where team sheets are exchanged.  At the end of each game, record your score in the middle of your match slip.  Checkmark who has the highest score between the two Professors.  If the scores are tied, both get a checkmark.

Compare checkmarks after the 3 games. If the number of checkmarks is tied, then the tiebreaker is the total round score, whomever is higher.  If that is tied, then the result for that match would be a tie.

We will cut to a top cut determined by TOM. Top cut rounds will follow the same structure as Swiss, Tables 1&2, 3&4, etc. until finals, where the finals will be a 1v1 instead of a free for all.
