Deck building restrictions

At least 1/3rd of all Pokémon cards in the deck (by total Pokémon card count) must be Fossil Museum featured Pokémon (see list below).

Special rules

  • The Field Museum has all of the fossils! Fossil Trainer cards are banned. As such, Pokémon that normally evolve from a fossil have been “errata’d” to change their stages – e.g. Omanyte would be a Basic, Omastar would be a Stage 1.
  • When a Pokémon that would normally evolve from a fossil (or its evolution) is in the Active Spot, you may use one of three Fossil Powers. The Fossil Power functions like an Ability for the current Active Pokémon (but is not an Ability), and each player can only use one Fossil Power total per game (meaning the Fossil Power is only usable for one turn, like a VSTAR Power). The options are:
    • Damage from this Pokémon’s attacks this turn isn’t affected by any effects on your opponent’s Active Pokémon.
    • Until the end of your opponent’s next turn, Pokémon (yours and your opponent’s) have no Abilities.
    • During your opponent’s next turn, your opponent’s Pokémon ex cannot do any damage to or place any damage on Benched Pokémon (yours and your opponent’s).

  • Item cards with “Fossil” or “Old Amber” in the title
  • Teal Mask Ogerpon ex (TWM 025 and functional equivalents)
  • Crustle (DRI 012 and functional equivalents)

Team building restrictions

  • Must bring at least 1 Fossil Museum featured Pokémon (see list below) to each game
  • Pokémon can only share a type with up to one other Pokémon on the team; in other words, a type can only appear up to twice across all Pokémon.
    • For example, you could bring a team with Lapras and Jellicent (sharing Water-type), but could not also have Ludicolo on that team (as that would be a third Water-type).
