Story
You are an ambitious trainer from Kanto, arriving in the tropical paradise of the Alola Region for the first time. After setting foot on the island of Melemele and selecting Rowlet, Litten, or Popplio, you will begin battling your way around the region, striving to prove yourself against every trainer you come across. Your goal? To earn the privilege of taking part in a most prestigious Trial at the 2017 Pokémon World Championships – the champion will win themselves a guaranteed position on the staff team at Anaheim this year! Fun rule changes will set the scene and keep you and your fellow competitors advancing through the islands as the tournament progresses. Oh, and something important to remember… KEEP NEBBY IN THE BAG.
Deck restrictions:
- 50 card deck, 5 prize cards (every Trainer is carrying Nebby, and everyone knows that Nebby can’t be allowed to battle. Stay in the bag Nebby!!).
- Only usable expansions are Sun & Moon and Evolutions – you’ve walked straight from Kanto onto the shores of Alola!
- Pokémon-EX and Pokémon-GX are not usable!
- You are required to use at least a 1-1-1 of one of either Decidueye, Primarina, or Incineroar’s evolutionary line.
- Banned cards: Mew EVO 53/108; Rare Candy; Double Colorless Energy.
Special Z-Move Rule!
Once per game, when behind on Prizes, you may use one of the following Z-Moves provided that your Active Pokémon at the time of use corresponds to the same type… and of course that you perform the appropriate Z-move pose!
- (Dark) WAKING NIGHTMARE: Shuffle your opponent’s hand into their deck. Then, search your opponent’s deck for any 5 cards and put them into your opponent’s hand. Shuffle their deck afterwards. Your opponent then draws an additional 2 cards.
- (Dragon) OUTRAGE: Knock-out your opponent’s Active Pokémon, do 20 damage to each of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon, and 10 damage to each of your own Benched Pokémon. Your Active Pokémon is now Confused.
- (Fairy) NOT-SO-HARMLESS MISCHIEF: Randomly discard 5 cards from your opponent’s deck. Then, look at your opponent’s hand, choose one of the cards you find there, and add that card to the Lost Zone.
- (Fighting) DOUBLE PUNCH: You may attack twice this turn.
- (Fire) CLEANSING FLAME: Choose 7 cards from your discard pile, and set those cards aside. Then, discard your hand. Add the cards that you chose previously into your hand.
- (Grass) ENERGY BLOOM: Search your deck or discard pile for up to 3 {G} Energy cards. Then, attach any number of Energy cards from your hand to your Pokémon in any way you like.
- (Lightning) SHEET LIGHTNING: Moving from your left to your right, put an increasing number of damage counters on each of your opponent’s Benched Pokémon, from 1 to 6. Finally, put as many damage counters on the Defending Pokémon as you have Pokémon in play. Discard 2 cards from the top of your deck.
- (Normal) HIDDEN POWER: For the rest of the game, you may use any attack on your opponent’s Pokémon in play, provided you have the correct NUMBER of Energy cards attached to your Active Pokémon.
- (Psychic) SUDDEN INSPIRATION: You may use 2 Supporter Cards this turn, and return any 1 card from your Discard Pile to your hand.
- (Steel) THE WALL: For the rest of the game, your opponent’s attacks do 20 less damage to all of your Pokémon, after applying Weakness and Resistance, and any effects on those Pokémon.
- (Water) MERCILESS WHIRPOOL: Does 50 damage. Redistribute damage counters on your opponent’s Pokémon in any way you choose.
