Following feedback from participants in the first Professor Cup Online back in April, we will be dividing the Swiss rounds into two separate flights.

Formats

VG Format – played on Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield

  • Players are assigned a random type upon registration. At least 4 Pokémon on their team must share that type.
  • At least 4 Pokémon must share a different type of the player’s choosing.
  • Double battle rules
  • Rental teams are permitted
  • Pokémon do not need to have the Galar symbol, but will need to be “battle-ready”
  • No two Pokémon may have the same Pokédex number, or held item
  • Mythical Pokémon may not be used
  • In addition, the following Pokémon may not be used:
    – Mewtwo
    – Ho-oh, Lugia
    – Kyogre, Groudon, Rayquaza, Deoxys
    – Palkia, Dialga, Giratina
    – Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyurem
    – Yveltal, Xerneas, Zygarde
    – Cosmog, Cosmoem, Solgaleo, Lunala, Necrozma
    – Zacian, Zamazenta, Eternatus, Calyrex

Example (very bad) teams if I am assigned the Water-type upon registration:

TCG Format – played on the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online

  • Players are assigned a random type upon registration. 50-60% of Pokémon in their deck must be of that type.
  • The remaining 40-50% of Pokémon must be of a different type of the player’s choosing.
  • Sets from Sun & Moon-Team Up onwards are legal
  • Standard-legal Black Star Promo cards are legal
  • Standard-legal mini-expansions are legal
  • Pokémon-GX, Pokémon V, and Pokémon VMAX may not be used.
  • Standard deck-building rules (60 cards, 4 of each name, etc)

In addition to cards banned in the current Standard format, the following cards are also banned in this format:

  • Aerodactyl (TEU, 130)
  • Excadrill (UNM, 119)
  • Reset Stamp (UNM, 206)

How To Play

Eligibility

The Professor Cup Online is open to all Professors with a Stage 1 or Stage 2 certification.
In addition, Basic Professors who have attended 4 or more Online Community Professor Seminar sessions and/or Professor Webinars are eligible to participate.
